TRACHEAL TUBE INTRODUCER (BOUGIE)

A Tracheal Tube Introducer (Bougie) is a flexible device used as a guide during difficult tracheal intubation, particularly when direct visualization of the vocal cords is challenging. It serves as an intermediary between the endotracheal tube (ETT) and the airway, making it easier to guide the tube into the trachea.

The bougie is typically made of semi-rigid plastic or flexible materials, allowing it to be maneuverer through the vocal cords while maintaining some stiffness to provide guidance for the ETT.

It is made up of Polyethylene, Latex Free medical grade PE, and Non-Toxic, pyrogen-free Material.

  • Adult: Typically 15 French (external diameter of about 5 mm) and can accommodate ETTs as small as size 6.0
  • Pediatric: Typically 10 French (external diameter of about 3.3 mm) and can accommodate ETTs as small as size 4.0
  • Neonatal: For ETTs with an internal diameter of 2.5, 3, or 3.5 mm
